Office and General had managed cleaning for a large site in Docklands for three years and had built up a solid reputation for quality and management.

As part of a restructuring, the customer wanted to reduce the number of contractors on site and streamline its supplier base. O&G were asked to take on all soft FM functions on site including security, mailroom, reception, pest control, floristry and estate management.

O&G extended the duties of the Site Manager to encompass management of these functions, although, in most cases, the current sub-contractors continued to provide the service. Savings came through the reduction of on-site Supervisors, with one Supervisory team running all services, streamlined billing, and savings in customer management time.

A further benefit came further down the line when O&G were able to take out headcount by multi-skilling the site team. For instance, mail delivery became part of the security function carried out during regular patrols of the building.
